Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen descended on the festival with The Flaming Lips in tow to film a Pickathon-themed show for their upcoming season. This year, bearers were part of an episode of Portlandia. The three-day fete doesn’t officially begin until Friday, but there is always a little something extra special for those that opt for Thursday Early Entry tickets.
Sporting seven intimate and intricate stages, this year’s fest features performances by Ty Segall, DIIV, Ex Hex, Viet Cong, Tinariwen, Cloud Nothings, King Tuff, Thundercat, Ryley Walker, tUnE-yArDs, Freakwater, Kevin Morby and many more. You can tune into that midwestern behemoth Lollapalooza to catch Paul McCarthy, Mettalica and The Weeknd, or for those with more indie tastes there’s Pickathon.Ī sustainability-minded haven for music lovers, Pickathon is a mid-size fest that takes place on a family-owned farm in Happy Valley, Oregon, a short 20-minute drive from downtown Portland. Music fans, if you aren’t out festivalling somewhere this weekend, you may want to be by a computer because there’s plenty of livestreaming to be had.
